Living the Taylor Swift Economy: A Priceless Night in Toronto with My Niece

This past weekend, I had the absolute joy of taking my 10-year-old niece to her first-ever concert: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Toronto. For months, she had been talking about how it was her dream to see Taylor Swift perform live. And when I finally secured tickets, her excitement was contagious—this was more than just a concert for her; it was a dream come true.

We made it a full experience, staying at the Marriott Rogers Centre, which added another layer of magic. From our room, we could hear the buzz of fans lining up hours before the concert, decked out in glittery outfits, homemade signs, and, of course, the now-famous friendship bracelets. The energy in Toronto was electric. The streets were alive with fans from every walk of life, united in their love for Taylor.

The Taylor Swift Economy: A Movement Beyond Music

Taylor Swift isn’t just a pop sensation; she’s an economy. From the millions spent on tickets and travel to the micro-economy of friendship bracelet supplies at craft stores, she’s created a movement that’s reshaping how wethink about fan culture and women in business.

This isn’t just about music—it’s about empowerment. Swift’s career is a masterclass in reclaiming ownership and celebrating authenticity. Through her re-recorded albums, she’s taught her fans the importance of owning their narrative, a lesson especially important for young girls. My niece, for example, already knows the story of Red (Taylor’s Version) and what it means to stand up for your rights.

Friendship Bracelets: A Symbol of Connection

At the concert, we came prepared with friendship bracelets to trade. This tradition has become a cornerstone of the Eras Tour, embodying the connection and community Taylor fosters among her fans. My niece and I exchanged bracelets with fans sitting near us—each one a small but meaningful reminder of the night. Watching her beam as she received her first bracelet from another fan was a moment I’ll never forget.

The Priceless Experience

Let’s talk about the cost for a second—because yes, the Taylor Swift experience isn’t cheap. Tickets, hotel, merchandise, and meals quickly added up to a small fortune. But as we sang along to every song!  My favorites,  The Man and Ready for it and danced to Shake It Off, I realized the old Mastercard commercials were right: the experience was priceless.

This wasn’t just a concert; it was a life lesson in joy, connection, and the power of women supporting women. Taylor’s music is a soundtrack to empowerment, and seeing it through my niece’s eyes reminded me why these moments matter.  I wanted to cry a few times over the weekend.

Toronto in Full Swing

The city itself was alive with Eras Tour energy. Restaurants were serving themed cocktails, and hotel staff wore Taylor Swift pins. They even renamed the street Taylor Swift Way!  It felt like a city-wide celebration of not just her music, but what she represents: resilience, creativity, reinvention and the ability to bring people together.

The Legacy of the Night

When we got back to the hotel, my niece looked up at me and said, “This was the best night of my life.” That’s when it hit me—this wasn’t just a memory for her. It was a milestone. She’ll carry this night with her as a reminder that dreams are worth chasing and that sometimes, they really do come true.

Taylor Swift may be redefining the music industry, but for one 10-year-old girl and her proud aunt, she also redefined what it means to live fully in the moment. And that’s something no price tag can capture.
