Most advisors I talk to believe they serve women well.
The numbers say otherwise.
Cerulli Associates projects that $54 trillion will pass to widowed spouses by 2048. Nearly $40 trillion of that will go to women. Women already control about a third of U.S. personal wealth.
Yet only 6% of widowed women met regularly with an advisor while their spouse was alive. And when a husband dies, many widows leave the advisor. Some studies put it as high as 80%.
That is not a client retention problem. That is a relationship problem.
The industry was not built for her
For decades, wealth management was designed around one client: the husband. Women were in the room, but not at the center of the conversation.
Half of U.S. widows are under 59. Many women step out of the workforce to care for children or parents. Women live longer, and they make money decisions differently. They want to understand, not just be told. They want trust before they want returns.
Advisors who miss this are not losing one client. They are losing the next generation of wealth.
Why I created the Women and Wealth Masterclass
After 25 years in this profession, I wanted to give advisors a practical way to close that gap. The Women and Wealth Masterclass is eight online modules built for financial planners and CFP® professionals, especially the men in our industry who want to do better.
You will learn:
- Why the traditional model misses women, and how we got here
- What women want: mindset, socialization, and the emotions behind money decisions
- Why women leave their advisor, and what goes wrong during major life changes
- Real case studies that go beyond widows and divorcees
- How to plan for the whole person: values, health, caregiving, and purpose
- How to build trust without pressure and bring real change to your firm
Each module ends with a quiz and a reflection exercise. Complete all eight to earn 4.5 hours of CFP Board CE, with an optional 2.5 hours of IAR CE, plus a certificate.
If you can serve women, you can serve anyone
Serving women well is not a niche strategy. It is simply better advice: more listening, more transparency, and more of the whole picture.
Women don’t need to be sold to. They need to be understood.
The advisors who learn that now will be the ones women choose next.
